Open up to the Miracles and Magic all Around Us

How can we open up more to witness the miracles and magic happening all around us on a daily basis?

I was walking back from the gym today through my neighborhood when I spotted a squirrel high up in a crab apple tea. The tree was totally bare with tiny red dots resembling crab apples. This squirrel was looking for food in this tree. I watched it pick two tiny apples before finding the perfect tiny apple to eat. I stood there on the ground looking up at the squirrel as it ate the tiny apple. I felt so enamored by the presence of this squirrel as it reminded me of my connection and oneness with everything in the entire Universe.

The squirrel showing up on my path the way it did, sitting high up on a dormant crab apple tree served as my sign today to witness the magic all around us. To not close ourselves off from seeing the sheer beauty, aliveness and interconnected we share with everything. It was such a powerful experience, I walked away feeling like I had seen God in that squirrel, feeling enveloped with love and awakened to a smile on my lips as I continued to walk home through the snowy streets.

How can we open up more to witness the miracles and magic happening all around us on a daily basis? These little tiny moments of remembrance that God is always surrounding us and always here with us.

God shows up in the wind that gently caresses your face as you walk to your car, the smile a child gives you sitting on shopping cart passing by you in the produce section of the grocery store, the pure love of your animal friend as she sprawls across your legs while you sit on the couch or even the endearing tight hug you receive from a friend who you meet up with for dinner.

What if all these moments are actually little tiny miracles where God is touching us through the ways we could best receive God's love? What if God's love is always around us in these subtle ways, but it is us who have forgotten that every moment in of itself is a reminder of our eternal connection to God?

This past weekend I had another moment like this in meditation. I was sitting crossed legged on my red meditation cushion with my awareness on the breathe. Breathing in and breathing out. In my meditation I had asked a question, I want to deepen my relationship with you God, please help me know you with even greater clarity. 

As I let my intention go, I sank deeper into meditation. A few moments, a thought came up which said: check your pulse point for your heartbeat. So with my eyes still closed I placed my two right hand fingers up to my neck to feel for my pulse. I started to feel the thumping of my heartbeat under my fingers. Then, in that moment this strong feeling came over me: my heartbeat is God and I started to feel an overwhelming feeling of love.

I realized, what an freakin' genius way for God to let us know that our heartbeat is actually God!! And that we are always at home with God because of our beating heart. The one thing that stops, when we leave these physical bodies is our heartbeat because we no longer need our heartbeat to serve as a reminder of God because when we die we go back home to God. Our beating heart is a reminder of our true home in God while we are "away from home" experiencing life as a human being.

Isn't that magical and pure genius?!
